Cause

A bug has been identified in Java SE 6 Update 16.

Solution

Upgrade Java to minimum Java SE 6 Update 29 (JRE) by downloading it from this site:
http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/index.html

IMPORTANT: Do not install Java 7 since it is not supported.
Click on the Download button below the JRE heading in the Java SE 6 section. Please see the blue selections in the screenshot below:

Once the JRE has been downloaded from Oracle it must be installed on the Windows machine containing the SE or DL Backup Client. Then do either A (recommended) or B below:

A: Upgrade the Java included with the Backup Client.

  1. Stop the Backup Client service.
  2. Browse to the Backup Client install folder and rename the Java folder.
  3. Create a new Java folder.
  4. Next, browse to the Java folder eg C:\Program Files\Java\JRE*
  5. Copy the JRE contents (bin, lib folder etc)
  6. Paste the contents to the Java folder created earlier
  7. Start the Backup Client service

B: Use this system installed Java.

  1. Stop the Backup Client service.
  2. Browse to the Backup Client install folder and rename the Java folder.
  3. Start the Backup Client service.
