Changing memory in the Windows Backup Client (DL and SE)

Note: From V7.0.0 onwards, Server Edition memory can be changed in Options and Settings > Advanced Performance.

You need to modify two files to change the memory allocation in the Windows Backup Client (DL and SE).

For the service

Open the file, located in the root directory of Attix5 Pro. The default directories are:

  • DL: C:\Program Files\Attix5 Pro\Backup Client DL
  • SE: C:\Program Files\Attix5 Pro\Backup Client SE

Add the following line: memory=1024 (where 1024 is the amount of memory you want to allocate in MB). The default is 512 MB so the setting needs to be more than this. Ensure that the memory entry in is added as a new line in the file and do NOT add a semicolon at the end of the existing entry.

For the GUI

Note: This is optional and is usually not needed. If you experience memory problems during a large restore or slow response when populating the restore tree, increase this memory setting.

In the file located in the root directory, add the following line: application.memory=1024 (where 1024 is the amount of memory you want to allocate in MB). The default is 512 MB. Restart the service and GUI for the changes to take effect.

  1. You must have more physical memory available than the value specified otherwise the system may start to swap.
  2. The setting only sets an upper limit for Java and does not mean it will constantly use the specified amount of memory. Typically the extra memory will only be used during a backup.

Visit the V5 FAQ for details on on how to change the memory for V5.x and below.
