Restoring Exchange 2000/2003/2007 using a disk-based Restore Snapshot

Article ID: 202
Last updated: 14 Nov, 2012

It is not possible to restore from a disk-based Restore Snapshot to Exchange 2000/2003/2007 directly.

The Exchange 2000/2003/2007 plug-in Restore Wizard does not support restores from disk-based Restore Snapshots for previous backups. Any attempts to “Restore from previous backups” will be made by connecting to the Storage Platform rather than using the disk-based Restore Snapshot data. This problem does not affect restores from the last backup (which is available locally in the dump folder) or if using a Recovery Server.

To restore Exchange from a disk-based Restore Snapshot, select the Exchange data and restore this to the Exchange plug-in dump location, making sure to overwrite existing files. Ensure that you specify the correct location of the Exchange plug-in dump location. Once restored to the dump location, open the Exchange plug-in Restore Wizard and select “Restore from locally available backup”.
Restore from locally available backup

The Restore Wizard will use the files from the Snapshot that have been placed in the dump folder, and will complete the restore as normal.
