How to resolve a failed uninstall of V7.0.0 SE on Ubuntu 12.10

Article ID: 207
Last updated: 05 Feb, 2013

When trying to uninstall a V7.0.0 SE Backup Client on Ubuntu 12.10, the process fails as it cannot stop the Attix5 Pro SE service.
The following messages display:

Removing attix5pro ...
 * Shutting down Attix5 Pro SE service
start -stop-daemon: unmask value must be a positive number
Try 'start-stop-daemon --help' for more information

  1. Perform an auto update to V7.0.1. This resolves the issue and you will be able to uninstall V7.0.1.
  2. Modify the a5backup script of the V7.0.0 installation:
In /etc/init.d/a5backupd change the following line:
       start-stop-daemon --stop --quiet -oknodo --pidfile $PIDFILE \ --user $BACKUP_USER
       start-stop-daemon --stop --pidfile $PIDFILE
