How to change the service user for Redstor Online Backup SE/Attix5 Pro SE for Mac OS X

Use the relevant process described below to change the service user on Mac OS X:

  1. For Redstor Online Backup SE
  2. For Attix5 Pro SE

A. Changing the service user for Redstor Online Backup SE

Follow the below process using TextEdit:

  1. Navigate to /Applications/Redstor Online Backup SE.app/Contents/Resources/ and open the service-user file in TextEdit
    • The username in this file is the user that the service will start under
  2. Change the text to the required user’s username
  3. Save the file
  4. Restart the a5backup process using the below commands:
    sudo /Applications/Redstor\ Online\ Backup\ SE.app/Contents/Resources/a5backup stop
    sudo /Applications/Redstor\ Online\ Backup\ SE.app/Contents/Resources/a5backup start

Using Terminal (where “root” is the user you wish to use to run the service), run the following commands:

cd /Applications/Redstor\ Online\ Backup\ SE.app/Contents/Resources/
sudo ./a5backup stop
sudo rm ./service-user
touch ./service-user
echo root >> ./service-user
sudo ./a5backup start


B. Changing the service user for Attix5 Pro SE

Follow the below process using TextEdit:

  1. Navigate to /Applications/Attix5 Pro SE.app/Contents/Resources/ and open the service-user file in TextEdit
    • The username in this file is the user that the service will start under
  2. Change the text to the required user’s username
  3. Save the file
  4. Restart the a5backup process using the below commands:
    sudo /Applications/Attix5\ Pro\ SE.app/Contents/Resources/a5backup stop
    sudo /Applications/Attix5\ Pro\ SE.app/Contents/Resources/a5backup start

Using Terminal (where “root” is the user you wish to use to run the service), run the following commands:

cd /Applications/Attix5\ Pro\ SE.app/Contents/Resources/
sudo ./a5backup stop
sudo rm ./service-user
touch ./service-user
echo root >> ./service-user
sudo ./a5backup start
