V6.2.x ClientUpdate.exe update

Article ID: 79
Last updated: 13 Jul, 2012
Releases prior to v6.2 included the client update pack in the Storage Platform installer which resulted in a larger installer.
If there was a Backup Client or Plug-in update only, the Account Server required an upgraded to apply the new ClientUpdate pack.

From v6.2 the Client and Plug-in update pack will be provided separately and no longer included in the Storage Platform installer.
This means a smaller Storage Platform installer and in the event of Backup Client only updates, only the ClientUpdate pack needs to be upgraded.

In earlier versions the ClientUpdates path were – C:\Program Files\Attix5 Pro\Storage Platform\ClientUpdates

During the v6.2 upgrade this ClientUpdates folder will be removed. When installing the v6.2.x ClientUpdate.exe it will be installed to a new default location:
  • Windows 2008 - C:\ProgramData\Attix5 Pro\AS_Service\ClientUpdates
  • Windows 2003 - C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Attix5 Pro\AS_Service\ClientUpdates
Please note that if you had multiple branded client updates or renamed any files/folders in the ClientUpdates folder, the 6.2 upgrade will not be able to remove the ClientUpdates folder.

If that is the case please do one of the following:
  • Ensure the ClientUpdate.exe extracts to the original folder.
  • Preferred option:
    • Remove the old ClientUpdates folder
    • Install the (multiple brand) updates to the new default location
    • Confirm the ClientUpdate path in the SP Console points to the new default location

Please note: If the Storage Platform supports multiple branded Backup Clients, please ensure that all the branded Client Updates are installed up to the exact same version on the Storage Platform. If this is not done, Auto Updates for Backup Clients will be disabled until it is. After installing the Client Updates, ensure that they have been installed to the correct location (i.e. C:\ProgramData\Attix5 Pro\AS_Service\ClientUpdates for Windows 2008 and C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Attix5 Pro\AS_Service\ClientUpdates for Windows 2003). If the files have been installed to the wrong location you can copy them to the correct location.
