Automatic Backups stop after Mac auto update

Article ID: 86
Last updated: 16 Jan, 2012
Symptom

After an auto update automatic backups are not performed and the following error is seen in the backup logs:

- Could not create backup: attempt to write a readonly database

When launching the backup client GUI you get the following prompt:

Cause

This occurs after an auto update from a pre v6.2 to v6.2 due to the way permissions are set on the backup index database.

The auto update process needs to overwrite files and Mac requires authorization for this process. If the backup runs as a user that does not have the permission, "Allow user to administer this computer" to authorize this process, the update cannot be completed. The process will be on hold until you supply the system password as per the screenshot.

Auto backups will not be able to run as well until the update is complete.

Solution

- Supply the password when prompted
